Welcome to the Accessory Museum

This museum is the largest private museum that exhibits modern costume jewelry and modern fashion in Japan.
Through a variety of fashionable items, this museum provides the opportunity to experience what a true beauty is.

About rooms

Each room in the museum is classified by a generation.
These rooms exhibit not only accessories but also furniture,household,commodities,clothes and bags.

With a total of 2,000 items on display throughout the rooms,you can feel the unique atmosphere and power of each era.

Through moving from room to room,you can feel not only character of each era but also the trend,ideology and culture.

THE COLLECTION
parmanent collection

Art Deco
(around 1920-30)

"Art Deco" is a style of art design appeared in the early 1900's not only in fashion, but also in architecture and industrial commodities.
It is mainly seen in Europe and the United States.
Art Deco was at its height when the Paris Exposition was held in 1925.
Art Deco is known for its design in geometric patterns.
The style of Art Deco was created by revitalizing old designs and found its inspiration in oriental and ancient arts.

The main designers:Louis Icart,Erte,Coco Chanel

Art Nouveau
(around 1900)

"Art Nouveau" is a style of art which was applied to architecture, furniture and craftwork.
It started at the end of the 19th century and lasted until the beginning of the 20th century.
Art Nouveau made the highest progress in glass,steel works and interiors.
Leading artists in this style were, among others, Emile Galle and the Daum Brothers.
They invented new technique in the field of glass works.

Victorian
(around 1850-1900)

The Victorian era in British history was period of Queen Victoria's reign which is from 1837 to 1901.
During this period the United Kingdom developed its own cultural style.
The Industrial Revolution was taking place,economy and culture was evolving rapidly and art prospered.
Delicate design in which the motif was designed to include natural objects is well known.
After the death of Prince Albert,Queen Victoria wore black dresses and jewelry and remained in mourning for the rest her life.
Mourning jewelry became popular among the ordinary people.
Black mourning jewelry was made from jet or glass.

The main designers:Kate Greenaway

Haute Couture
(around 1940-60)

"Haute Couture" means tailor made luxury clothes.
The designer made clothes based on the basic design,to fit the customer.
At the same time,the designer created a mode.
In those days,designers obtained a very high social position.
Their customers were often wealthy and they preferred the high level of designed clothes and accessories.

The main designers:Trifari,Miriam Haskell,Christian Dior,Elsa Schiaparelli

prêt-à-porter
(around 1970)

"prêt-à-porter" means Ready-to-wear clothing.
At that time,a huge number of designs were created by talented designers.
The social background of the designs was influenced by advancement of women and by industrialization.
The general public was now able to obtain designer fashions and the trend was formed.

The main designers:Yves Saint-Laurent,Fabrice,Lea Stein

avant-garde
(around 1980-90)

"avant-garde" means innovative new designs.
The designers rebelled against all mass production of industrialization and the conservative ideas of fashion.
They created a variety of designs.

The main designers:Chritian Lacroix,Moschino,Givenchy,Dolce&Gabbana

※The Accessory Museum has no parking available.
But there is some parking(coin operated parking space) available close by.
